In December of 2017 I decided to visit the United Arab Emirates, a country where luxury is the way of life. Spending most of the days in its capital Abu Dhabi, I discovered a city with many more attractions than at first seemed. To see the whole city I recommend 3 days.
The city consists mainly of three islands Abu Dhabi, Saadiyat Island and Yas Island.
It is a very large city in which moving on foot is quite complicated, today public transport is based on buses since the metro network is planned for a few years. The best way to get around the city is with taxis that are reasonably priced, a 30-minute trip can cost around € 10.
The best time to visit this country is in winter when temperatures range between 20-25 degrees.
These are the main places to visit in Abu Dhabi:
The most famous towers of Abu Dhabi are the Etihad Towers, a complex of six towers located in front of the Emirates Palace and that both day and night are necessary to visit.
The towers are made up of residential buildings, offices, restaurants, hotels and shops.
You can go up to the Jumeriah tower and see a beautiful view of the city. It is the best place to see the New Presidential Palace.
It is absolutely incredible inside with many details in gold and the sample of luxury that this city splurges.
The price for staying at this hotel is about € 400 the most economical room. Its construction began in 2001 and ended in 2005 and is considered to be one of the most expensive hotels ever built with an amount of 3,000 million dollars.
The Emirates Palace is the former residence of the Sheikh of Abu Dhabi since this city is the capital of the United Arab Emirates. You can visit inside after passing through a control at the entrance door at the end of the street where the Etihad Towers are located.
Located on Saadiyat Island is the Louvre Abu Dhabi, opened in November 2017, which is the first of the three museums that this island will host, the other two being the Guggenheim in Abu Dhabi and the Zayed National Museum.
The most impressive part of the museum is the silver dome that seems to float above the building
The price for entering the museum is 60 AED.
Main Door New Presidential Palace
At the end of the street where the Etihad Towers and the Emirates Palace are located, the main door of the new palace of Abu Dhabi appears, which today can not be accessed. It can only be seen from the Corniche or from the Marina Mall area. It looks like a real masterpiece, so I hope it can be visited in the future.
Inside we find three lamps made by Swarovski of great beauty. There is also the largest carpet in the world that occupies the entire main room and is made in one piece. Admission is free.
The schedule of the Sheikh Zayed mosque is from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., except on Friday which is from 4:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Wahat Al Karama
It is also a place of homage to the soldiers of the Emirates who left their lives for the country.
Crossing in front of the Great Mosque we found a place created to photograph it in an impressive way. From the parking of the Mosque there is a bus every 30 minutes that takes you to this point that almost nobody knows and is very little traveled, which allows you to make wonderful photos.
It is located on the island of Yas, an island dedicated to leisure, where you can visit more amusement parks such as Warner Bros or Yas Waterworld.
The only amusement park in the world dedicated exclusively to Ferrari. Composed of two roller coasters, one of them the fastest in the world that reaches 240 km / h.
Inside you can find all kinds of shops and you will see the Emiratis buying in the best shops and perfumeries.
Due to the high temperatures one of the attractions to visit are the gigantic shopping centers that are scattered throughout the city.
Highlight Yas Mall located on the island of Yas, is the largest shopping center in the city and the Marina Mall, 30 minutes walk from the Etihad Towers.
The best beach in Abu Dhabi is Saadiyat Public Beach, it costs 25 AED but it is worth visiting. White sand and crystal clear water in the middle of the desert is an unrepeatable experience and an opportunity to bathe in the waters of the Persian Gulf.
In a country where the heat can be unbearable, the beaches are a place worth visiting.
Highlight the Corniche Beach, located on the main island and from where you get a magnificent view of the Marina Mall, the copy of the Atlantis Hotel in Dubai and the new Presidential Palace.
Excursion to the desert
It is important to note that the journey through the dunes is at a fairly high speed and I recommend not to go on a full stomach because it can get dizzy.
You can enjoy a spectacular sunset.
One of the essential visits if you have never visited a desert is to make this excursion.
For a price of about € 50, they pick you up at the hotel you are staying in, enjoy a 40-minute trip through the dunes by 4x4 and end with a dinner with shows in the middle of the desert.
In Abu Dhabi, whether you are passionate about sport or not, there is an activity that is essential, visiting the Yas Marina circuit. For football fans, the Sheik Zayed Stadium stands out.
The distance is 5.5 km, which means that to walk around between stops for photos and enjoy it takes less than 2 hours.
The Yas Marina circuit can be visited free of charge from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and allows access to it either by bicycle or on foot, it is a truly unique experience. It requires a previous registration that can be done from 17:30 at the entrance to the circuit and the rental of bicycles is also free.
Sheikh Zayed stadium
Headquarters of the UAE team with capacity for 50,000 spectators.
He has hosted the Club World Cup in 2009, 2010 and 2017 as the main events.
The football jersey acquired during the trip was that of Al-Ain FC.
